Daniel Christie is an award winning career studio potter. He was born in upstate New York in the early 80’s. He received a BFA with a concentration in Ceramics in 2006 from the State University of Plattsburgh in New York. For the last 20 years Daniel has dedicated his focus to the gas reduction firing of homemade glazes on wheel thrown high-fired stoneware. He built his own kiln and facility from ground up in 2009 deep in the secluded woods of King George, Virginia. This included a home for his future family, a spacious detached studio workspace, and a pole barn to house his sprung arch, 110 cu ft, brick, downdraft kiln. He often slips trails different images that are tactile for the user and carry deep symbolic meaning. Daniel creates strong durable forms. His surface treatment is soft and the visually molten glazes flow easily around the tactile components. He intends to live his remaining life annoying his wife, raising his two children and making pottery at his Virginia home.

Special recognitions and accomplishments include several recent national exhibitions including one in the Morean Center for Clay, two international publications (Plantarium and Artistonish), a marketing campaign for Sabra hummus where he created 1600 handmade Sabra-hummus branded serving dishes in 2018, curating, curating, promoting, and hosting “Tools of the Ceramic Trade” exhibit at the Richmond Main Street Train Station in 2020, the creation 300 mugs with the county crest for King George, Virginia’s 300th birthday celebration and a large vessel solo exhibit at the Brentwood Art Exchange in 2017.
